Vision Therapy and Visual Dysfunctions Training

Dr. Lee and our head vision therapist, Britt, were away this weekend for a VT/Visual Dysfunctions course! We’re always learning and looking for new techniques to help our patients improve their visual skills. This time, we had the wonderful opportunity to learn from Dr. Steen Aalberg from Denmark. We’re excited to bring back new activities for the vision therapy program!

Best Fit For Your Glasses

Dr. Lee cringed when she saw this picture of Sean Penn and Charlize Theron, but probably not for the reason you think….

Look at his sunglasses! They do not fit around his ear, and they look very tight against his head (probably hugging his head to make up for the fact that they’re not sitting on his ears). This probably creates pressure on his head, and on the back of the ears where the glasses are hooked. Yikes!
At Whitby Vision Care, we would not let you walk out like that! We always adjust your glasses to fit you, to ensure that you feel good and look GREAT! 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!

Concussion Recovery

Vision problems after a concussion or traumatic brain injury can be devastating for a patient trying to return to school/work. Research has shown that approximately 70% of young athletes who suffer a concussion have eye coordination, focusing, and eye movement problems.

“The traditional vision approach still relies on the spontaneous recovery of double vision, patching, and using therapies to learn functional approaches around vision deficits, as opposed to treating the vision deficits. However, many optometrists across our nation are providing optometric vision therapy in addition to therapeutic lenses and prisms to help resolve visual deficits.”

Eye Exams For Kids

I have seen many kids who need glasses but the parents had no idea. They don’t tell you, because they don’t know what things are supposed to look like! That’s why it’s important to have a comprehensive eye exam because an optometrist can measure how light focuses in their eyes, even if they can’t read the letters.
All kids under the age of 20 are covered for one yearly exam under OHIP. Through the Eye See Eye Learn program, children in JK can receive a complimentary pair of glasses donated by Nikon and OGI.
Get your child’s eye tested and make sure they are well equipped for learning
