Police Eye Exams

For your police application, the OACP certificate requires a special peripheral vision test (visual field) and colour vision test (D-15), which not all optometry offices have. They’re available at Whitby Vision Care, so let the staff know about your police application when you’re calling, and they can book everything you need along with your comprehensive eye exam! Vision Therapy For Teens

Vision therapy is not just for kids!

V came to us for vision therapy because she was having double vision for over two years and was experiencing headaches and blurry vision. V was starting highschool when she first started therapy and wanted these issues to go away since her homework was getting heavier.

After vision therapy, the double vision decreased greatly. V still noticed it occasionally but she said it was nowhere near as bad as it was before vision therapy and felt she had the tools to manage it and get rid of it when it did happen. Congratulations V! We will miss you and your love of music.

Vision Therapy Helps With Hand Eye Coordination

M came to us because he was having difficulties with reading, where he would lose his place and skip words often while reading and when trying to copy from the board at school. He also loved baseball and wanted to be better at catching and throwing, and have better coordination overall. He had been diagnosed with Developmental Coordination Disorder.

During vision therapy, M and his mom started noticing that he was already improving on being able to follow things with his eyes and that his hand-eye coordination had improved. As we continued vision therapy, M found copying from the board was getting easier, and he started reading more often. Upon completion of vision therapy, M’s reading had greatly improved and he was above his reading grade level and had improved with his catching and throwing skills. Congratulations M! We will miss you and your love of baseball and exuberant personality.

Vision therapy may be the missing piece for reading

K came to us because he was having a lot of trouble with reading. He lost his place frequently and skipped words, and also had trouble copying from the board. He also said that the words were always moving on the page. K also had trouble with spelling and tended to reverse letters and mixed up his lefts and rights often.

After vision therapy, K wasn’t losing his place nearly as much and felt reading was a lot easier for him. K’s teacher noticed significant improvements in his reading and he was much more confident and more willing to read out loud in front of the class. K’s mom also found his reading was much better and he even volunteered to read in front of the whole school during an assembly. K was also really excited to attend the book fair at his school so he could pick out some new books to read which made him and his mom happy that he found reading much easier and more enjoyable. K still needed lots of extra help at school, but vision therapy helped him improve faster and benefit more from tutoring (as he was previously in tutoring with little to no changes).

Congratulations K! We will miss you and your love of football and your dogs 🙂

Vision therapy can help older kids (teens) and adults too!

M came to us because he was having troubles at school and was concerned as he was going to be starting high school soon. He lost his place often when he read and tended to skip words. He also found it difficult looking at a crowded page and pulling information from it and sometimes experienced dizziness.

After vision therapy, M reported that he wasn’t losing his place while reading and found it easier to focus when reading or doing other activities that required a lot of concentration. His mom also noticed that he stopped complaining of dizziness and that reading seemed much easier for him. She was surprised to notice that his testing times improved consistently!

Congratulations M! We will miss you and your love of basketball and the Raptors.
